“Our project was completed on schedule and budget. It makes it very easy to recommend Richard Mandell to anyone seeking the services of a golf architect.”

Richard’s first published work was an article entitled Double Trouble for Golf Illustrated magazine back in 1993. Since then, he has been featured in Links Magazine and quoted in Sports Illustrated. He has also been asked to contribute to GolfInc. Magazine and Golf Course Architecture magazine just to name a few.  Richard has contributed chapters in three different book anthologies about golf course design and recently completed his first full book (but not his last), Pinehurst~ Home of American Golf (The Evolution of a Legend) which was recently awarded the 2008 International Network of Golf Book of the Year Award. Many of his writings are included here as well as the Epilogue from his Pinehurst book.

Spreading the word about his passion – golf course architecture – is another outlet for Richard and he has a long list of presentations to a variety of groups as well as radio and television appearances. From local Rotary Clubs to industry conferences such as the Carolinas Golf Superintendents Association to the Golf Digest Panelists, Richard has shared his ideals about the art and science of golf course design- good design shouldn’t cost money, a hazard is to challenge, not penalize – to golfers and industry leaders alike. In addition, Richard has taught a class about golf course architecture at North Carolina State University since 1997. Much of his design work has been written about in a variety of outlets and is re-printed here as well.
